The Tire Lot

What the shop has confirmed it does.

This page lists only what has been verified with the shop. Anything not listed here is not a claim we are willing to publish yet — if you need something else, call and ask. That answer is free and it is accurate.

New tires

New tires ordered and fitted in the size, load index and speed rating your vehicle calls for.

  • Full tread depth from the first mile
  • Manufacturer warranty where the maker offers one on that model
  • The widest choice of size, season type and speed rating

Used tires

Single used tires, matched pairs and sets — each one listed with measured tread depth and its DOT date code.

  • Tread depth measured in 32nds at several points across the tread
  • DOT build date shown, and read out loud if you ask
  • Buy one to match three you already own, or a full set

Installation

Mounting a tire onto the wheel and fitting it to the vehicle.

  • The old tire is broken off the rim on a tire machine, not levered off by hand
  • The new tire is inflated to the pressure printed on your vehicle's door placard
  • Lug nuts go back on in a star pattern, tightened to a torque figure rather than by feel

Balancing

Adding wheel weights so the assembly spins without vibration.

  • The wheel and tire are spun on a balancer, which reports where the assembly runs heavy
  • Weights are clipped to the rim flange or stuck inside the barrel at the point the machine calls for
  • The assembly is spun again afterwards to confirm the reading came down

Flat repair

Repairing a puncture, where the damage is in a repairable area.

  • The tire comes off the wheel so the inside can be looked at — a puncture cannot be judged from the outside
  • Whether a tire can be repaired depends on where the hole is and what the inside looks like
  • If it is not repairable you are told that, rather than sold a repair that will not hold

Why this list is what it is

It would be easy to fill this page with the usual tire-shop menu. We would rather publish the services we can stand behind than every service a tire shop could conceivably offer. This page grows as things are verified — never because a longer list reads better.

About prices

No prices, fees or included items are published on this page, because none have been confirmed for publication. Ask for a quote and the shop will tell you what the price covers and what gets added at the counter.

Need something that is not listed?

Call the shop and ask directly. The phone rings at the shop on Main Street, not at a call centre, and you will get a straight yes or no.

Where do I find my tire size?

It's printed on the sidewall of the tire you already have, and again on the sticker inside the driver's door.

245/45R18
widthaspectradialwheel
245
WidthThe tread width in millimetres.
45
Aspect ratioThe sidewall height as a percentage of the width.
R
ConstructionR means radial — almost every car tire today.
18
Wheel sizeThe wheel diameter in inches.

The door placard shows the size your vehicle's manufacturer specified. If the tire on the car doesn't match it, bring us both numbers.

Not sure you're reading it right? Take a photo of the sidewall and send it with your quote request — we'll read it for you.
