Tire Balancing in Chula Vista, CA

Adding wheel weights so the assembly spins without vibration — measured on a machine, not judged by ear.

What actually happens

Balancing is one of the few jobs on a car with a number attached to the result: the machine tells you what the imbalance was and what it is after.

01

The assembly comes off and goes on the balancer

The wheel and tire come off the vehicle as one unit and are mounted on a balancer with a cone that centres the wheel on its hub bore. If it is not centred properly, everything measured afterwards is wrong.

02

It is spun and measured

The machine spins the assembly and measures where it runs heavy, on both the inner and outer plane of the wheel. It reports the amount and the exact position — this is a measurement, not a judgement call.

03

Weights go where the machine says

Small weights are clipped to the rim flange or stuck to the inside of the barrel at the position the machine indicates. Alloy wheels usually take adhesive weights on the inside so nothing shows from outside.

04

It is spun again to confirm

A second spin verifies the correction worked. If the reading has not come down, the weight placement is redone rather than declared good enough.

05

Back on the vehicle, torqued

The assembly goes back on and the lug nuts are torqued in a star pattern, the same as any installation.

  • The wheel and tire are spun on a balancer, which reports where the assembly runs heavy
  • Weights are clipped to the rim flange or stuck inside the barrel at the point the machine calls for
  • The assembly is spun again afterwards to confirm the reading came down

When balancing is not the answer

A vibration that appears at a particular speed and rises with it is often balance. But a bent wheel, a tire with an internal belt problem, a seized brake or worn suspension parts all shake a car too, and no amount of weight fixes any of them. Wheel alignment is not among the services this shop has confirmed, so if the cause turns out to be something other than balance you will be told what was found rather than sold a balance that will not help.

Matching size is a starting point, not a fitment guarantee. Load index, speed rating and your vehicle's door placard all matter — we confirm fitment at the shop before installing.

Where the work happens

The balancer is at the shop on Main St. If your car has developed a shake, calling during business hours and describing when it happens is the fastest way forward.

Questions about balancing

How do I know my wheels need balancing?

The usual sign is a vibration that starts around a particular speed and gets stronger with it — often felt in the steering wheel for a front wheel, and through the seat or floor for a rear one. Describe when you feel it when you call; where it is felt narrows down where to look.

Is balancing the same as alignment?

No. Balancing corrects weight distribution around a spinning wheel. Alignment adjusts the angles at which the wheels sit against the road. They fix different symptoms, and alignment is not among the services this shop has confirmed it does.

Do new tires need balancing?

A freshly mounted tire is balanced before it goes back on the vehicle. Neither the tire nor the wheel is perfectly even in weight, and mounting them together produces a new combination that has to be measured.

Can a weight fall off?

Yes. Clip-on weights can be knocked off by a kerb and adhesive weights can let go, and the vibration usually comes back at the same speed it went away at. It is measurable, so it can be re-checked on the machine.

What does balancing cost?

No prices are published on this site, and whether balancing is included with an installation is confirmed by the shop rather than promised here. Ask at the counter what the figure covers.

Where do I find my tire size?

It's printed on the sidewall of the tire you already have, and again on the sticker inside the driver's door.

245
WidthThe tread width in millimetres.
45
Aspect ratioThe sidewall height as a percentage of the width.

Wheel sizeThe wheel diameter in inches.

The door placard shows the size your vehicle's manufacturer specified. If the tire on the car doesn't match it, bring us both numbers.

Not sure you're reading it right? Take a photo of the sidewall and send it with your quote request — we'll read it for you.
